If a channel is encrypted you'll have no way to access it directly through the card. No premium channel would likely be in the clear unless there were a free limited time promotion. However, it would require that the cable provider allow these channels to be accessed in the clear. Clear QAM would be the other likely option from a cable provider which would work with a direct cable connection to the tuner card itself. NTSC is a possibility but this would typically be delivered via a Cable Set Top Box (STB). With confirmation that the card works properly using the Hauppuage application the only thing that comes to mind is that the configuration in Media Center is incorrect (either that or a software encoder is necessary).
